Reader's Digest Short, Short Story Contest

As I posted a while back, I entered the Reader's Digest contest.  The contest will be judged two ways.  The first factor is that to be considered for a cash prize, the story must be in the top 100 entries through votes.  The top 100 will be then turned over to a panel of judges for final consideration of the winner(s).

My story, through the stellar efforts  of my "voting team" , has placed as high as #10 in the rankings.  As the contest gets closer to the finish line the competition gets stiffer and stiffer. We have been bobbing between #14 and #15 for the last few days.  Not too shabby considering that as of right now there are 37,085 entries in the contest.  All of which, of course, want to be in the top 100.

To rev up the voting I send out an email every morning setting out the happenings of the last 24 hours.  I thought I would include you in those updates as I invite each and every reader to vote for my story if you want to do that.

Here is today's commentary and the live link to the story for voting purposes:

I'm going to run #15 through the washer and then throw it into the dryer on the fluffy setting.. Gonna' spiff it up pretty since we seem to have super glued our hind ends to it.

Who are these goops Gina, Becky, Amber, Jaci and Deb? We were the pioneers who blazed the trail to #10. Remember that? Wasn't that fun?

So after we huff and puff clearing the brush and smoothing the path they roll us back down the hill and steal our territory right out from under our noses BOO!!!! HISS!!!!

Currently we have 1510 votes and guess what position we are in? Good! Gina, that overachiever, has 1532 votes and is in #14 which has a babbling brook on the site. We gained 49 votes over our 1461 start yesterday. Gina, started yesterday with 1474 votes and is now at 1532 a gain of 58 votes. That is just not right. There is no way Gina has more friends and family and co-workers and hangers-on who will do anything tor a doughnut voting for her than we have available to vote for us.

Well, as has been declared so many times it is losing its appeal, if we get back to our 69 votes (or even better? How about better?) we can move up and hold a higher position. If not, at least 15 has been fluffed up. Don't even want to consider how disgusting the site is at #16. Probably has cooties.

Let's vote! Shall we? Let's do it!

Plunked in #15 again with no view at all. Gina, as she did yesterday morning, came screeching around the corner and tossed us in the air and when we landed we were in #15 and she was in #14. Gina is beginning to get on my bad side.

I heard from a couple of you that you've been unable to vote. My knowledge of this is limited to the following:

1) You can only vote when the vote now is red. In my case when it turns red, as I approach with my mouse to click on the link the red turns to gray/blue BUT when I click the vote takes.

2) We can vote once every 24 hours and they employed some troll who spends all 24 hours with an hour glass squinting and assessing to be sure that no one gets to vote one millisecond before they should When you vote note the time and plan to come back at that time 24 hours later.

3) You can vote on all smart devices, phones, computers, maybe iPads at the same time! Some of you score two points every day for the team. The team adores you!

4) The contest must be rigged. Someone doesn't like turkey and is simply getting even for the duck being flung aside in favor of turkey, which they don't like.

Please keep trying to vote. I'm calling on the universe to make every obstacle in our way move into the way of the other contenders.

Here's today's stats: We, the underdog, have 1461 votes - a gain of 42 votes over the 1419 votes we started yesterday with. We've already said plenty about where that positions us. Gina, who-will-be-sorry, is in #14 with 1474 votes a gain for her of 40 votes over the 1434 she started yesterday with. So, we are currently 13 measly votes behind her. Not only can we catch her in the blink of an eye BUT if we regain out speed of 60 plus votes we will sprint ahead of her enough to HOLD #14. Let's do that. Won't that be fun? Let's do that! Here we go!

Thanks!
