Lilacs
I have been feeling so left out as my friend Chrislyn talks about her arms full of lilac blooms this spring. I love lilacs and can smell that heady bouquet simply by taking a deep breath and closing my eyes. My grandmother had a grand lilac bush in her backyard and I remember just hanging out by the bush when it blossomed in the spring thinking it was wonderful to have such a thing in my world.
Here in California I thought it was impossible to grow lilacs and had just accepted that fact until Chrislyn's flowers prodded me into exploring what might possibly be available for hardiness zone 9. And, Eureka! I found a lilac bush, bought it and will count the days until it is shipped in October and then count the days until it flowers in spring 2010!
