Thoughts About a Blog Named "To be continued..."

Try as I might I can't come up with the reason why on March 13, 2008, this blog was born. I had the domain name a long time before that fateful day in March, so seeing my name in print wasn't the reason.  I just simply do not remember now, although I vividly recall that Connie named the place.  She had a couple other blog-worthy names too.  Maybe I should have taken one of the others because I swear that some days it is only because of the promise of the title, To be continued..., that it is continued.  If I had any idea what I was doing on March 13, 2008, I would have backed away with my hands in the air.

But now, one year later, I have been captured and can't (yet) break free of this blog. It is remarkable to me the sheer numbers of people, places, and things I knew nothing about before I started this blog.  Some days, when I despair that I will never think of something to post, I put a single word into a Google search and pages of the most diverse and  fascinating information pop up.  For all I have learned in the past year it is sobering to realize that I haven't begun to be knowledgeable.  I assure you that making a contribution to Wikipedia, as I did a few months ago, was nowhere in my good-ways-to-spend-my-money thinking a year ago.

Besides the delight of learning there is the pleasure of you, the blog followers.  On any given day some 370 to 650 people (the scales were topped at 815 on one occasion) amble through these pages.  Of that number I can claim to know a handful or so.  All the rest of you are unknown, although you feel like friends.  I am certain that feeling arises because apparently we are interested in a lot of the same things.  I post and you read and sometimes you comment.  We have a connection.

The Ottoman Harem is the most popular thread.  It has over 6500 hits.  Close on its heels is the thread about Clark Gable and Loretta Young's daughter.  Some days Magdalene Laundries is in great demand and, other days, Hearst Castle is.  A lot of days, and these are my favorites, a new person arrives on these shores and goes all the way back to post number one to find out the origins of this place.  I know there are readers in the UK because I have heard from some of you.  Other than that I don't know how many shores this blog touches but I do know that it is read by people each hour of the twenty-four hours.

So, on this Friday the 13th, always a lucky day for me, I look forward to continuing the journey into year two.  If you have something of interest that you think should be posted here, leave me a comment.  I read all the comments and, although I can't promise to post your suggestion, I certainly will consider it.

Thanks for stopping by and please come back often.

Cheers!

Annette

    Congratulations Annette!!!
I can think of no one in my "stable" of friends who has the ambition or inclination to attempt a "classroom" of this magnitude. I say "classroom" because, speaking personally, "To Be Continued..." has been educational and entertaining. I have laughed at your cartoons, danced to your musical selections, read books on your recommendation, cooked your recipes; cheered the hero and heroine and booed the villains.

Thank you Annette....may "To Be Continued..." be continued indeed.
