They're Back!

Hula Hoops!  They are everywhere.  I remember when I played with one and I remember when Megan played with one and now our neighbor kids who are in the 8-9 year old range are playing with them.  Fun!

The hollow plastic circle that launched a dizzying pop-culture craze marks 50 years today, the day its inventors sought the Hula Hoop trademark.

Richard Knerr and Arthur "Spud" Melin based their creation on a similar toy that Australian school children seemed to enjoy. Within a year, their Wham-O company had sold more than 100 million Hula Hoops ($1.98 each) — more than one hoop for every two Americans.

The rest is history. There's even a magazine dedicated to hooping.

Geeze, I had trouble twirling these things "back then".... imagine the difficulty "here'n'now". My sister Marie was a hula hoop whiz and had great fun entertaining her foster kids in later years....
