Hatlestad Studio
Well, this entry is back to the subject of the extremely talented people I have met and known in my life.
John Hatlestad came from the same wide spot in the road in northern Minnesota as George Northup (featured earlier with his bronze work) and I did. I got to know John well because we worked together at the public beach during the summer. He was a lifeguard and I was a bathhouse attendant until I got old enough to get my WSI and become a lifeguard too. I had a huge crush on John as did every girl within 500 miles I am sure.
It is funny the things you remember. I remember being entrusted with $75.00 of John's money to go to the local music store and buy him a banjo. I have no recall at all why he couldn't do it himself but I remember thinking I was really somethin' to be chosen to do that.
Besides being a lifeguard John played the guitar and sang at a local dive called the Green Door. I always thought he would end up in the entertainment world. I had no idea that he was a gifted craftsman until quite recently when I found his website.
