I am a romantic and I fully acknowledge it.  Over the years I have learned enough to get a little more realistic.  After reading The Glitter and the Gold  written by Consuelo Vanderbilt and describing her life as the Duchess of Marlborough (I will definitely write more about Consuelo at another time!), I finally came to realize that country house living in the late 1800s and early 1900s really wasn't what I thought it to be at all.  In fact a woman's entire day was filled with nothing but changing clothes: morning, noon, afternoon, tea, activities, dinner.. all required different modes of dress.  What a bore!

But, I still lean towards the romantic as demonstrated by the following lamp that I just found on the internet.  I, of course, want it.  Isn't it reminiscent of a carriage ride through the park to a fancy dress ball?
