Expensive Designer Bedrooms for Children

What a dream for a little girl or boy to have a bedroom modeled after their favorite fairytale or movie! Of course the rich and famous can afford to give their kids whatever they want, and they aren't hesitating to do just that when it comes to bedroom design and decor. One designer says "if you can draw it we can make it," which is resulting in every creation you can imagine -- from a $47,000 pumpkin-shaped carriage bed (Cinderella) to a Tom Thumb room consisting entirely of over-sized furniture.

It's not unusual for these designer bedrooms to end up costing $50,000 to $100,000 by the time they're complete. Would you spend that much on your child's bedroom? Especially considering they'll probably grow out of the theme and want something new in a year or two?

Any child would love to live as her favorite storybook character, and if she happened to be the offspring of a premier footballer, dreams could come true! Initially footballer's wives and girlfriends made a huge hole in their pockets but now they have little daughters who make them spend thousands of pounds on their dream rooms.

Goldilocks or Cinderella- themed bedrooms are the favorite among children, complete with hand crafted carriage- shaped beds and hand -painted murals. Soccer stars are often famous for their gaudy display of wealth so they do not mind spending on their little ones. They do not hesitate to spill out $99,000 a time for a complete bedroom.

The carriage for the Cinderella-themed room is completely hand crafted and the bed alone costs for a whopping $47,600. The room has a walk in wardroom to offer.

Sir Galahad-themed room with wooden swords carved into the bed, and a Tom Thumb-themed room, with oversized furniture, including a $2,500 bed and $1,666 oak pirate’s chest for boys, are some other designs for the kid's rooms.

Mark Wilkinson Furniture, who has showrooms in Knutsford, Cheshire, with offices in Wiltshire and London, designs these fairy-tale rooms. Mr. Wilson refrained from giving names of his clients, who, he said, often suggested the designs for their children's rooms.

This kind of stuff makes me nuts, and this comes from one of the most indulgent mothers/grandmothers that you could find. When I read things such as this, $47,000 or $80,000 or even $10,000 spent for purely luxury items for small chilren, I want to scream!! Spend it on education, yes.....life enhancing experiences, yes.....food, yes....exercise and physical development, yes. But how could anyone justify spending that much money on a child's bed, when there are so many kids in our country and world going hungry, neglected, and abused? Spending that money in an ethical manner will do more for your's and your child's development than any kind of room decor.

Frankly, Vina, I could not justify spending $80,000 on my own bedroom.
I have done a lot of travelling worldwide and have indeed seen many kids whereof you speak. It is a sad reality.
