April is National Kite Flying Month but we are getting a head start!
The traditional Chinese Dragon kite is a wonderfully collectible and flyable piece of art.

The detail and craftsmanship of these kites is almost unimaginable.
Each head is hand crafted from split bamboo, shaped over an open flame, and then covered with raw silk. The silk is then painted in the traditional motif made famous in Weifang, the center of kiting in China.

The body of the dragon consists of flat cells, each individually painted and supported by a feather-tipped bamboo balance rod.

The amazing part is how well they fly. Each cell provides lift so that the combined power dozens of cells creates an undulating train in the sky. You can actually hold the head in your hand while the body supports it, or launch the entire creation into the air. And of course, you can also display your Chinese treasure indoors.

We now have access to three sizes of traditional Dragons.

Prices include a permanent storage box, line and winder. We are keeping a few pieces in inventory and can order the larger ones for you on request. Ask about colors and sizes in stock.
The dragon heads are all individually hand painted - each one is unique with its own 'character'. They all feature:
- Deer horns -- deer are ridden by the imortals and represent longevity and good luck,
- Tigers eyes -- the tiger is the king of the beasts, mighty and strong.
- Catfish whiskers -- to represent the material wealth.
- A human beard -- symbol of intelligence and talent. The longer the beard the wiser you are.
- Segmented body -- represents a snake.
Medium Dragon - $275

What a special celebratory post! Thank you.
My home is a short walking distance to China Town, and the City Hall Square. Imagine my joy during special Chinese festivals when I can walk to the celebrations and then to the Square to observe magnificent kites, and dragon dancing.
